EUCN European Parliament Internships

Applications are now open for the EUCN European Parliament Internship for 2009.

MEP Inernships

Since 2003, the National Centre for Research on Europe, in conjunction with Members of the European Parliament's Delegation responsible for relations with Australia and New Zealand, has coordinated a programme allowing New Zealanders to work as interns for a Member of the European Parliament (MEP). This internship programme is now being organised by the New Zealand European Union Centres Network and in 2010 two postgraduate students from EUCN Partner Universities will be selected to work as interns at the European Parliament.

This programme forms part of the EUCN's wider objective to increase New Zealanders' awareness and understanding of the European Union. The internships are designed to provide post-graduates with an opportunity to experience working for an MEP as well as to assist their own research.

To be eligible for the internship you must be a post-graduate student registered at a EUCN Partner University for study in 2010 at the Honours, Masters or Doctoral level and a New Zealand citizen or permanent resident.

EUCN Internships

The EUCN is also pleased to annouce a new opportunity for students studying the EU in New Zealand at the post-graduate level (Honours, Masters or Doctoral) . We are seeking applicants for national EUCN Internships. These internships will be for between 1-6 months and will be undertaken with key actors in EU-New Zealand relations within New Zealand (for example the Delagation for the European Commission, New Zealand Europe Business Council or various Member state agencies).

Interns will be awarded a small travel grant to enable them to take up their internship and a grant of approximately $200 per week to help cover living costs.

Applicants will need to be able to work full time while undertaking the internship. Therefore, students are eligible if they have recently completed studies focused on the EU or are enrolled for a relevant course of study in 2009/10.

Timing for internships will be worked out in negotiations between successful candiates and the EUCN; however, due to the schedules of the host organisations this may require an amount of flexibility.

Application Procedure

Applicants for both internships are required to complete the online application form and upload the requested documents. If you wish to apply for both internships, please complete two full seperate applications.

Applications close 5pm 23rd October 2009.
